Are implants right for you?
Before development of dental implants, removable appliances such as dentures or partial dentures were the only alternative to replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures. For a successful implant to take hold, a candidate must have proper bone density and have a strong immune system.
The Implant Process
- A 3 dimensional radiograph is taken by the surgeon to ensure there is adequate bone for the implant(s).
- Careful planning by both Dr. Krause and the implant surgeon is done.
- Surgery is completed to prepare the area for an implant and place the implant in the mouth.
- Following the procedure, a period of time is required for the implant to take hold as the bone tissue integrates into the implant.
- After the healing period, the implant is uncovered and is ready for placement of the crown over the implant.
