The Role of Dental Sealants
Newly erupted teeth tend to have deep grooves and fissures in the biting surfaces. Dental sealants can be applied to these surfaces to fill in these areas and prevent food and bacteria from harboring there. This, along with good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups and cleanings, keeps the teeth cavity-free on these surfaces for years.
Application of Sealants:
- Dental sealants do not require any removal of tooth structure or any anesthesia.
- The biting surface of the tooth is cleaned with a special paste prior to application of the sealants.
- The sealant material flows onto the biting surface and is cured with a light source to make it hard.
- Once the sealant has been cured with the light, it is ready for eating and drinking.
